• Planting of native trees, shrubs and wildflowers is carried out to the highest standard with excellent establishment rates.  Suitable tree guards or fencing (used to protect trees from rabbit and deer browsing) can be supplied and fitted/ erected if required. Woodlands, hedgerows, copses, shelterbelts and individual specimen trees are all planted as part of our projects.  To see a list of native trees and shrubs please click here.  To find out which wildflower plugs we supply, please contact us for details.
  
• Maintenance of young woodland plantations is essential for good growth rates and establishment.  We aim to optimise the timing of operations, which include: knapsack herbicide spot or band spraying of grasses & weeds around trees; inter-row mowing and/ or strimming of grass between the planted rows; straightening and re-firming of guards and supports; beating-up (replacing dead trees resulting from natural losses); the removal of plastic guards which have started to split or degrade.
  
• Felling and clearance operations undertaken are focused around small trees (up to 15in or 380mm diameter) which require coppicing, scrub clearance or felling.  The creation of deadwood habitat piles from at least 10% of arisings is recommended to offer refuges for wildlife and return nutrients back into the woodland ecosystem.  We use and highly recommend Stihl chainsaws and strimmers which are reliable, high performance machines that optimise the safety and efficiency of felling operations.  We sub-contract the felling of larger trees and areas of woodland to local companies who are equipped for these operations.
  
• Pruning operations to improve the timber quality of young hardwood trees are expertly undertaken using a range of hand-held and telescopic saws. Formative and high pruning can be undertaken up to a height of 5m.  We use and recommend Silky Fox pruning saws which enable a clean cut that prevents damage to the timber.
